Share Your World Week #42

Many thanks to Cee at Cee;s Life Photography for her fun and diverse questions that get us thinking with each week she has done it again this week.

Thank you Cee!

Cee welcomes new participants anytime, so don’t feel because you were not in on this fun writing challenge from the beginning that you should miss out. Not the case. Just visit Cee’s blog, she’ll hook you up with the how to.  It’s so ea

  1. It’s a very hot and muggy day. You desperately want something very cool and refreshing to quench your thirst and revitalize your body. What would you drink?

Home made lemonade with a lot of crushed ice.  I love lemons when its warm and dry. Nothing seems to quench my thirst better. I do not drink soda at all so in the summer  I try to keep large baskets of fresh lemons around at all times. I also cook with a  lot of fresh lemon juice and the zest.

2. What do you keep in the trunk of your car?

Spare tire, all that goes with changing a tire. Jumper cables, flares a blanket, spare water jug. Also because for about 3 months out of the year we are snow country, so in addition would be: ice melt, sand, tarp, blocks of wood to use for traction if needed, and  a shovel with fold down handle. Extra dry clothes and coats.

3. What is your favorite TV show that is currently on TV?

Okay he is not a show in of himself, but for 40 weeks out of the year he is on my television every Sunday for about 4 hours Kevin Harvick #29  & about 41 other drivers are racing close to 200mph on oval tracks. Kevin Harvick has been the driver follow and cheer for. Its been 12 yrs now, since the tragic death of Dale Earnhardt Sr

I wish I was watching Downton Abbey like my friends across the pond are. I am not much of a television watcher unless it is our PBS (which is where Downton Abbey will be broadcast from in the states)  I have become an avid DA fan and am waiting impatiently to see what is happening at the manor now

Thank you to those watching the series now and not saying a word. I am humbly grateful!

         4. Is it more important to love or be loved?

I’ll say both of course. It’s a treasure to love deeply and abundantly. It’s also something to be cherished by being loved. Rewarding is when both happen at the same timeSo let me ask you this; have you loved someone today?

Nascar Doing Vegas. Week 3 into The Chase.

#14 Tony Stewart brings it home in Vegas.

Tony Stewart did it last Sunday. He was able to hold off all contenders and grab that checkered flag. After the Sunday before at Phoenix when Stewart ran out of fuel coming into the final lap the Vegas win was revenge. Sweet Revenge,  Sweet 45 wins of revenge.  His first on 1.5 mile track.

What a race! Vegas always has an air of excitement around the track that other tracks just don’t have. Maybe it’s the roulette table, the poker games & possibly the shows. Whatever it is, it put a fire under the hoods of the stock cars and blood thirst in the throats in the drivers on Sunday at The Las Vegas Speedway in the Nascar Sprint Cup Race.  .

The cautions happening one  after another were what helped put Stewart pull out in front of the field. He seemed to excel on restarts where driver Jimmy Johnson #48 could not.

“Every time the caution came out, I’m like, ‘Not again,’ ” Stewart said. “You wonder how many times you’re going to give them a chance at it on a restart there, and when they’re going to be able to capitalize on us.

“But, that was our strong suit [Sunday]. We were really strong on the restarts. Just proud of the Hendrick engine department; making great steam with it. That was the key to our restarts was the power that we had. We could go without spinning the tires, and we could get a really good lead into Turn 1 and just haul butt down the backstretch.”

Tony Stewart

Jimmy Johnson #48 was not as good on restarts. Often flat spotting his tires on a restart just after taking on new ones. Johnson’s season last year had to have been a real downer after coming away from 5 years in a row taking home the championship. This seasons start not faring him any better. In fact, at the beginning of the season with a controversial penalty much like his crew chief Chad Knaus & himself faced in 2005. Their hope is that this year’s appeal will result in the same favorable way.

Chad Knaus, #48 Jimmy Johnson’s Crew Chief goes before the appeal board again Tuesday this year because of a more serious infraction – the illegally modified C-pillars that was confiscated from the #48 race car in initial inspection for the Daytona 500. On March 1, NASCAR fined Knaus $100,000 for the violation, and suspended him and car chief Ron Malec for six Sprint Cup events. Johnson was also docked 25 championship points. Knaus and Malec have worked the past two weeks pending the appeal, although the points deduction went into effect immediately. (and Chad was allowed at the track on Sunday, but could only observe)

The appeal will be held at NASCAR’s Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C. It will be heard by three members pulled from the 44-person National Stock Car Racing Appeals Panel, an independent board composed of several track operators, industry leaders, and former competitors. The appeal board has the power to uphold, reduce, or even increase the penalties. Robby Gordon experienced a little of both in 2008, when he had a 100-point penalty for an unapproved front bumper at Daytona overturned on appeal, but his $100,000 fine was increased to $150,000.

Although I personally would like to see anything put a damper on the #48 cat, that’s the bad sportsmanship in me. I’m just getting bored with Jimmy taking the championship one season after another. Five in a row. The Jimmy & Chad show got old real fast! I take no prisoners, and wish them no ill. Best of luck guys.

My driver, the guy I am a fan of no matter where he finishes did not fare well. Although a finish in the #12 spot could be worse it’s so not what Kevin  Happy Harvick is looking for. I’ve not mentioned a non-race issue before that I want to mention here now because as agrandmother I’m excited. This is a family oriented sport like no other.  I believe although Kevin’s head is always in the game he may be just a bit distracted for a bit this season.

Kevin & his wife, his partner in everything including racing are expecting their first child. Delana Harvick & her husband Kevin are the team I adore. And I do mean they are a team. I had no clue when I became a Happy Harvick fan that it would include being a fan of his wife too. But it does.  Who knew? But let me tell you this young woman just speaks to my heart. She is gorgeous whether in a darling smart sporty outfit, or if she’s in a stock car racing firesuit. I’m so happy for them both. I suspected last year when the couple sold their own team to Riichard Childress Racing that something was up.  I told my husband then, “They are either going to have a baby or they are trying. We can expect to hear about them being pregnant soon.  And sure enough, they announced it at the begining of this season.

Congratulations Kevin & Delana Harvick!

Stewart has just two tracks now that he has not taken on the Sprint Cup’s Series. Two tracks he has left to conquer. Not bad for a guy who years ago was booed every time he stepped out of a winning car. He has yet to win on two tracks in the Cup’s circuit of tracks it visits each and every season; Darlington & Kentucky.

But it’s not Darlington, nor is it Kentucky. Nope.  Instead Smoke,  It’s Bristol Baby!

Daytone Winter Tesing 2012

Kevin Harvick Says via his Facebook:

Getting closer and closer to the Daytona 500!

NASCAR Winter testing in Daytona and I could not be more excited. This means that we are less than a month away from Daytona 2012 Speed Week and the opening race the Daytona 500.

I am a big, no make that HUGE NASCAR FAN. It is the one sport I never miss. If I cannot be home to watch the race I DVR the race. I’ve been  a fan of stock car racing since a young girl when my big brother raced at the Portland [Oregon ] Racing International Speedway The  PRI.  My brother ran a 67 goat, for those unaware this is a 1967 GTO, my favorite muscle car at the time. I to this day can recall t smell of rubber and the roar of all those horses put together in one track. I love it! Gives my skin goose bumps.

So the start of the 2012 season is just around the corner and this is the year that a driver will win his or hers  first ever Chase. His or her first Nascar Championship. This is the year that my driver, #29, Kevin “Happy” Harvick will take home that chase trophy. I have confidence in him, I have faith in his team.

Kevin took over the ride for team owner Richard Childress right after my long time Fave Dale Earnhardt Sr died in a crash at Daytona that we all that he was going to walk away from. We’d seen much worse. But even as the race continued and the commentators spoke Dale was dead. Dead from an odd crash that broke his neck. Since then because of what happened there has now been a new rule put into place. No driver can drive without what is called a Hans Device. It is a heavy-duty seat belt constructed to brace a driver’s head and neck intact to his head rest. Although it limits a drivers range of motion and there for creating blind spots it saves lives. NASCAR had not demanded these devices as a rule until after this awful tragic wreck. This device and new safety barrier walls put in place have greatly reduced the risk of severe injury or like in dale’s case, worse.

And the drivers need these kind of safety implements now more than ever. 2912 winter testing found the drivers reaching seeds of 205 mph with no effort. Granted this is a speedway they are on, and the smaller half mile tracks will never allow them to reach these speeds. But the speedways will. How exciting! I have not heard that NASCAR will attempt to “muffle” or restrict these speeds, but by race day we all know that they could very well come up with a restrictor plate to put over the carburetor to act as a governor and reduce the speed they are capable of. We’ll have to wait and see.

But it’s going to be one hell of a NASCAR season in my opinion. Now let’s get er done…. Boogity, Boogity, B, as our favorite NASCAR voice , Darryl Waltrip, aka DW starts every race in the winter and early spring.

And can I just say that I detest that other networks get in on the action of broadcasting the races. And that I myself would prefer to that they stick with Fox all season long.

Just saying….

Kyle Bush~ Hammered Down by Nascar~ Enough?

Should Kyle Bush, #18 in the Nascar Sprint Cup Series be suspended for the rest of the 2011 Sprint Cup season? Should he lose out on the chance to be crowned the 2011 Champion?
[edited by author for clarity 11/1402011

That is the  BIG question for every Nasacar  fan, Nascar official, the media, the #18 team & Coach Joe Gibbs the team owner, the # 18 sponsors such as  M & M’s, and Kyle Bush’s family.  To be sure. With just two races to go to decide who the 2011 Champion will be.

I am not on the fence about this.  But I am just a fan.  I know,.. he   was  running for the 2011 Nascar Sprint Cup Series Championship.  But so was Truck Series driver Ron Hornaday # 33  running for the championship in the Nascar Truck Series. And I have no problem admitting (albeit being a  # 29 – Kevin Harvick’s  fan) that K Bush is a very talented driver. Extremely so.   But has himself convinced his smoke does not smell.  He has an awful attitude, has from day one.  An attitude Coach Gibbs  has tried to rein  in.  K Bush seemed to being trying.  Though the “Bad Kyle” still rides  shot-gun with him in whichever Nascar Series he is running in.  K Bush runs all three, Sprint Cup, Nationwide, & Truck.  And he’s ran them well.  He’s set so many different records that I can  hardly keep track.  K Bush seemed to have started this 2011 season with a new attitude,  he was a newlywed and everyone near him commented on what a great influence his new bride was for him.  I believe I even heard  Coach Gibbs sigh a great sigh of relief.

But Friday night in the Truck series Kyle  Bush set off into the corner rear fender of  another driver who just happens to be running for yet  another Nascar Series  Championship other than the Cup Series that K Bush was running for. ( A driver can choose only one of the three series to commit to at the beginning of the season,  for which he is running for the championship)  That would be the  Truck Championship that K Bush wrecked himself &  Ron Hornaday Friday night at the Texas  Motor Speedway.  Intentionally!

Sure wrecks happen all the time, “Boys being Boys” and all.  And stock car racing involves bumping into each other’s cars,  swapping paint,   and not being able to “whoa it up soon enough”,  so they take each other out sometimes.  And deadly wrecks as we/ We all remember  this can happen as it did to the driver who really still has my heart, the late  Dale Earnhardt Sr # 3 – “The intimidator”.   So I get wrecks. I understand it.   I get not being able to whoa your car up soon enough coming into a corner with a 24% embankment that sends cars up into the  walls and thankfully safety barriers.  That’s racing.  I get it.  I’ve been a fan most of my life.

What happened Friday with K Bush wrecking Ron  Hornaday the # 33  in the Truck series was wrong. So extremely wrong!   It was not just racing,  it wasnot just Boys having at it”.  It was revenge.  K Bush has had a long running, not so healthy, need to avenge himself against Kevin Harvick.   Because of so-called infractions that K Bush apparently feels have been lobbied against him by Kevin Harvick, Delana Harvick, ( Kevin’s business partner and wife)  RICHARD CHILDRESS RACING (who Ron Hornaday and Kevin Harvick race for),  and Harvick’s three separate Nascar racing teams.

I may be bias. I definitely do not see eye to eye with K Bush.  There is no denying in my mind that what K Bush did in taking Ron Hornaday out in the 13th lap Friday was cheap, cheeky, cowardly,  and so wrong on so many levels. It was a flagrant foul. He should be black flagged from the rest of the season, not parked for one weekend.  K Bush had been warned by Nascar before about him and Harvick handling things on the track.  You may be asking what does Kevin Harvick have to do with K Bush taking Ron Hornaday out of a race?  Ron Hornday drives for Kevin Harvick Incorporated.  Ron Hornaday was driving the # 33.   K Bush has it out for Kevein Harvick.  He has it out for Delana Harvick too; and because he cannot get to her on the track he tries to use  his wife Samantha to try to do his dirty work off the track. Childish and petty.  And K Bush goes after all of Kevin & Delana Harvick’s driver’s when the mood strikes him.

The race Friday at Texas Speedway took out a driver who was doing nothing but racing his race, the track, and  the other drivers.  A driver who was running for the championship of the Truck series.   K Bush was not.   K Bush was racing Kevin Harvick, and only Kevin Harvick…..despite the fact that  Harvick was not even in the #33 truck,  or on the track when this wreck came down.   Crazy?

K Bush was parked for the weekend.  He was not allowed to race in the Nationwide Series Saturday, nor the Sprint Cup Series today (Sunday) for which K Bush was running for the championship. He is out of the Chase for the championship now only because he is too far behind in points.

So when you see this, “Are you serious?” look on my face come late Tuesday afternoon if Nascar officials DO NOT take further sanctions against Kyle Bush you’ll know that I believe they made the wrong choice. Kyle Bush needs more than a slap on the wrist this time…..more than being put on probation (warning)……. more than being grounded for one weekend.

I don’t care if it costs him the Chase, the Nascar  Sprint Cup Championship should be held by a driver who is someone who can be looked up too, to have respect for, and to be role  modeled after. A true Champion in all ways.  On the track and off the track.  Champions become ambassadors for the sport. Stock car racing has never been an intentional violent sport. K Bush’s behavior just can not be rewarded.

But even today my grandson who was a # 18 fan said, “that was just stupid wrong!”

Apparently my grandson has inherited his passion from me.

Promoting is a Sin.. Unless it’s for your #1 Nascar Driver~And for Passion~

Feeling a bit silly doing this. Could I be a Nascar Groupie at age 56? Would not be the first nor the last. However I am willing to try and promote Kevin Harvick’s name, business and anything else I can to keep Nascar racing a top rated sport country wide. I am hoping to bring more women, especially from the Pacific Northwest into having a passion for this sport. It’s so much more than about just turning left.  Passions are the breath of continued happiness in life. If you don’t have even just one than you are taking your years off your life.

Passions.  As I said the breath of life. Without any at all your brain stops growing. A brain that stops growing is one left susceptible to dementia earlier than would be if there had been even just one passion. Passion costs you little. It’s about something that seems effotless to love, Something that feeds your soul as well as your creative energy. Having something in your life that you are passionate about relies on no one but you and your passion. In fact the costs that may be involved are mostly emotional ones and if you find this is how it is for you then know you’re on the right track. You are ab;e to love your passion without feeling beholding to it. Our passions are not about ” Have To’s” but instead about “Want To’s” This should not feel like work but more like an escape from everyday matters.

I have a few passions. I am passionate about the one sport I adore, Nascar Racing x 3 series. Sprint Cup, Nationwide &   Truck. I am passionate about my papaer arts, creating, memory books, altered arts such as books, collages, 3D Art and my latest passion; creating paper flowers, especially roses.

Nascar Passion~ Spread the Speed…ahem… Love~

That's MY Driver!! Or I Should say That's My Driver's Number!

Happy Harvick Rocks in his Ride!

One of my passions and my only real professional sports passions happens to be  NASCAR RACING. I love it! I love the family feel the entire sport has, the feeling that we’re all in this sport together and because we love the sport so much that we will all rally around it to protect it.

I also love this sport because I LOVE SPEED! I love to watch the cars with their drivers banging each other around trying to claim more real estate on the track, kissing  each other’s car’s with paint around the corners going three wide, the thrill of the vibrations soaring though my body every time I hear those pipes as the cars rear up and howl past me.

It’s my sport.

I love my driver. I love my husband’s driver. I even love to hate the driver who most infuriates me, who would be a young and arrogant driver by the name of Kyle Bush. He is an incredibly talented driver who ruin his popularity chances because of his attitude. And I must note here to just for transparency that Bush and my driver Happy Harvick have a healthy rivalry going on.

Kevin Harvick and his wife Delana Harvick have my heart, Their souls are married to each other and to this sport. Kevin  is who is often referred to as Happy Harvick, because rarely do you not see a smile adorning his handsome face. He also is referred to as The Closer. Because out of no where he suddenly shows in the last laps and closes in on the lead and just in time before that checkered flag comes down he takes over the leader and rushes past, leaving the guy in his dust wondering “where in the hell did Harvick come from?” Kevin has led the least laps in this years series but has 3 wins so far.

I also seem to have become quite smitten with Harvick’s  wife and partner in all crimes, Delanna. Let me tell you this woman may be the most intelligent with track smarts ever to enter a track.  And she’s a woman!! Unheard  of in the past. Today she is part Nascar’s bright future.  She runs KHI ie:  Kevin Harvick Incorporated with Kevin and they have stables (teams)  in two of the series in Nascar, Nationwide, and Truck. And mind you they are doing quite well in both. They both have savvy business senses and between the two of them we will be hearing BOTH of their names for a long time to come.

Jeff Gordon #24. What can I say about this darling of Nascar? He is my husband’s driver. Has been since Jeff came to Nascar which seems like yesterday, and yet seems so long ago as well.  Jeff was around and winning races by the Old Rule standards. So he has seen the Chase come into the sport which was only vaguely tolerated in the begining,  until finally it’s is this sport’s Supr Bowl every year. But for us in Nascar we know it’s not just ONE weekend that resolves who our 2011 champ will be.

We,  Nascar devotees know it’s all about the 10 RACES IN THE CHASE.

10 weekends!!   That is how we learn who is the best in 2011.

This is how we rock n roll…..
