Spammers attack Sam Flowers. Again!

Yep! Their at it again, those pesky spammers that attack WordPress blogs. In particular Sam Flowers Blog. And I cannot restrain myself from sharing with my followers. And giggling.

If you have been following along with this blog or better yet Sam Flowers blog @  then you know what fun he has been having at spammers expense. And why not I ask? Think of the time wasted in dealing with spam in our comments. Sam has the wonderful attitude of discovering fun even in spam. I am enjoying his tongue in cheek post and those who comment.

This morning takes the cake.

You can read below the one that struck something in Sam and struck the funny bone in this baroness’s morning. I am not exaggerating when I say it had me rolling with laughter. Just not saying where I was rolling at. But I am still giggling as I write this.

The word “IRONY” strikes a chord.

Thank again Sam!  You’re the best for letting me share

The most fitting of all comments about this post about spam was received today. In my spam filter. Yes I had been looking daily in anticipation! And here it is. The final seal of approval!

It is from Brady Hartzell. Take it away Brady.

“this style of writing is a correct skill and art form! great work I commend anybody with a skill at writing for example yours”. I could not agree more Brady, and may I add, the same to you.

Keep Tthe Dream Alive

Saw this awesome image on Dr Michael Cornwal’s Blog today.

If you have not visited this his blog I highly recommend that you do. I am finding ways to deal with some issues through what he writes and shares that is proving to be very valuable.

Wanting a segue into discussions with younger children in my life.  This image is perfect, I love the idea of it being a great conversation tool. It’s so interesting to realize there are children who have no clue who Dr Martin Luther King was and what he has done for our country.

  Thanks Dr Michael~

And Thank you Dr King!

WordPress Spam – Gobble The Gook

Freshly SqueezedI had a quick gander at Freshly Pressed today – WordPress’s shop-window of what it considers the best in the WordPress blogging world on any given day. I am not sure how this is decided – if there are real people reading through all our blog posts each day ratifying and rating each one or if they do indeed employ helper monkeys detailed in their annual report they so kindly sent me on the new year or even if there is some software algorithm that as if by magic assesses the prosy wheat from the babbling chaff.

Anyway what caught my eye were its stats. Yes there are lies damned lies and then there are statistics but these statistics seemed innocent enough. And it advised that today there were 838,238 new blog posts and 487,313 comments – it is a wonder we have any readers at all given that it seems we are all at it – blogging that is. But the comments themselves though substantial the maths does suggest that about half of all posts go uncommented. Indeed my experience is that some blog posts hog all the comments to themselves so suspect that nearer two-thirds of all blog posts go uncommented. That certainly makes this blogger of many uncommented posts feel a bit better at least!

However what those Freshly pressed stats do not detail and what is the eventual purpose of this post is the amount of unsolicited comments generated each day – in short the extent of spam.

WordPress DashboardThe WordPress spam filters do a good job in my own experience. The odd one gets through and I usually remove them. I say usually – I did receive one recently following a post I wrote about Twitter from James who thought my blog was awesome – clearly based on the philosophy that though we may suspect insincerity there comes a level of high-praise where we think okay maybe they have a point! – he then went on to say that though he hates reading I somehow got his attention – note James does not merely say that he does not enjoy reading but that he hates it. Yet for all his antipathy still finds the time to read obscure WordPress blogs. He then said while adding if I did not mind (because that is what I hate about spammers not their unwanted attention but their lack of politeness!) if I could visit his blog (even more remarkable, though he cannot tolerate reading he can somehow endure writing!) and we could add each other to our respective blogrolls. I did not do this but decided his comment should remain – its absurdity was entertaining. Although I have a nagging feeling that I am not the first or last to have experienced James’ silky praising prose – perhaps you reader have too, though James may have been going by the name of John or Jill…

Where are we?! Oh yes – the spam that does not make it through the WordPress filter into the twilight of day that is the blogosphere.

I am not going to spend any time dissecting spam – anyone who has ever ventured into the wilds of the world wide web will have encountered it – and daily – we know what is, we know its dark ulterior motives and I have nothing to add, I am quite sure, to what you yourself have thought on the subject.

But it has to be said that WordPress spam is a special sort of spam – as it attempts to kill us with kindness the only thing getting murdered is the English language.

Witness this example from Kenos commenting on a post of mine about the animated graphics used in the 1990′s British Television series version of PG Wodehouse’s Jeeves and Wooster:-

Would it be possible of which not every aspects happen to be reviewed while they could have been.

You are perhaps now trying to make sense of Kenos’ enigmatic observation. Do not try to make sense of it or even to navigate its grammar – just marvel at its faultless spelling and move on.

Another post of mine about an episode of a young British comedy Him & Her The Sleepover received not one but two comparably enigmatic responses.

The first from Priya Rawat is as follows:

Could not thank you enough for the blogposts on your site. I know you set a lot of time and energy into these and really hope you know how deeply I appreciate it. I hope I could do a similar thing for someone else at some point.

Firstly Priya, and I do hope you don’t mind me calling you by your first name, thank you for your generous words, you are most welcome. Note too how he or she is not just praising this one post of mine but all of my posts. I am touched too that if Priya has a blog or decides later to set one up it is now in the hope of inspiring a similar deep appreciation in another spammer sorry reader in the not too distant future.

Actually that comment was not that enigmatic – just flat out flattery – but this next one more that compensates. This commenter goes by just one name, Habilash – perhaps you are familiar with their work? If not, brace yourself:

tn pas cher.tall shelf nutcracker bricklayer shirtwaist linger palette frill laxative pakistani banger line esquire revolting diversity exhort. scurrilous bushel vainglory clarion midships tollgate northwestern underline unkind screenplay fever jailbird uncoloured? strolling blabber…

They go on for many many oh so very many more words

To those of you perhaps lacking poetry in your soul you will have read the above as a dictionary-soup but for the rest of you I am sure you are as deeply affected by it as I was – and indeed I still remain. You have to imagine Habilash reciting this word-epic on stage each of the above words a declaration and a challenge punctuated by seconds of silence before the next revelation and perhaps accompanied by some music – free-jazz certainly works but industrial techno does not lose its meter either.

All I can say is Habilash I thank you, and I could not have said it any better myself.

Not all of the comments are as profound as those from the hallowed Habilash. One commenter told me that they definitely found something useful in my review of the BBC’s Evolution Series The Origins of Us but that its usefulness was impaired for them due to the web-page itself being reluctant to load and would I be interested in a new hosting provider. But since they were going by the name of Wireless Door Bell I just could not take them seriously.

Finally – well not finally but I feel I have to end this somewhere as I fear for the sanity of me and you adrift in the spam filtered netherworld – a comment from Kadry Place who had this to say

Very intreresting blog. It was very useful. I was looking exaxtly for this. Thank you for your effort. I hope you will write more such useful posts.

Kadry is to spelling what Kenos is to grammar.

But not only was the post I wrote what Kadry was looking for but it was exactly what they were looking for. Dear reader a teardrop has fallen upon my keyboard. The post they were commenting on though was The Cannibalistic Councillor – and reader there is no poetic license at play in my title here, it really is about a Councillor with an interest in Cannibalism. So then read again Kadry’s comment – ‘I was looking exactly for this’. So Kadry thank you but if you don’t mind I need to be going, I’ve got places to go to, people to see…

Oh censorious WordPress surely you must know by now that there really is an audience for everything!

Daytone Winter Tesing 2012

Kevin Harvick Says via his Facebook:

Getting closer and closer to the Daytona 500!

NASCAR Winter testing in Daytona and I could not be more excited. This means that we are less than a month away from Daytona 2012 Speed Week and the opening race the Daytona 500.

I am a big, no make that HUGE NASCAR FAN. It is the one sport I never miss. If I cannot be home to watch the race I DVR the race. I’ve been  a fan of stock car racing since a young girl when my big brother raced at the Portland [Oregon ] Racing International Speedway The  PRI.  My brother ran a 67 goat, for those unaware this is a 1967 GTO, my favorite muscle car at the time. I to this day can recall t smell of rubber and the roar of all those horses put together in one track. I love it! Gives my skin goose bumps.

So the start of the 2012 season is just around the corner and this is the year that a driver will win his or hers  first ever Chase. His or her first Nascar Championship. This is the year that my driver, #29, Kevin “Happy” Harvick will take home that chase trophy. I have confidence in him, I have faith in his team.

Kevin took over the ride for team owner Richard Childress right after my long time Fave Dale Earnhardt Sr died in a crash at Daytona that we all that he was going to walk away from. We’d seen much worse. But even as the race continued and the commentators spoke Dale was dead. Dead from an odd crash that broke his neck. Since then because of what happened there has now been a new rule put into place. No driver can drive without what is called a Hans Device. It is a heavy-duty seat belt constructed to brace a driver’s head and neck intact to his head rest. Although it limits a drivers range of motion and there for creating blind spots it saves lives. NASCAR had not demanded these devices as a rule until after this awful tragic wreck. This device and new safety barrier walls put in place have greatly reduced the risk of severe injury or like in dale’s case, worse.

And the drivers need these kind of safety implements now more than ever. 2912 winter testing found the drivers reaching seeds of 205 mph with no effort. Granted this is a speedway they are on, and the smaller half mile tracks will never allow them to reach these speeds. But the speedways will. How exciting! I have not heard that NASCAR will attempt to “muffle” or restrict these speeds, but by race day we all know that they could very well come up with a restrictor plate to put over the carburetor to act as a governor and reduce the speed they are capable of. We’ll have to wait and see.

But it’s going to be one hell of a NASCAR season in my opinion. Now let’s get er done…. Boogity, Boogity, B, as our favorite NASCAR voice , Darryl Waltrip, aka DW starts every race in the winter and early spring.

And can I just say that I detest that other networks get in on the action of broadcasting the races. And that I myself would prefer to that they stick with Fox all season long.

Just saying….

Confessions of a “Real” Trial Junkie

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are~ Theodore Roosevelt.”

Laying around again today, fighting a virus and not being productive at all. I did have a choice yesterday of watching NASCAR Speed trials in Daytona, or watching a trial I have kept my eye on the past week. . Of course there were other options but as I am not one who watches much TV  these really were my only two options. And fine ones they were. NASCAR has been dry since the end of it’s season last September.  I suffered through a morning of ” Live with Kelly” just for the monologue because Carl Edwards was her co-host. This is what it’s like during the hiatus of a sport. NASCAR will start their engines again for the 2012 season next month.

I discovered that I could watch NASCAR on an encore performance – so I spend the better part of a day watching a trial. During the trial I realized I wanted to blog about my love for trail observing. So I watched one,  and I wrote about another.

I have a confession. Not something many know about me.

I am a trial junkie!  I love the courtroom.

There I said it. Now it’s known.

I read, watch and breathe trials. The law, Statutes . I am a fan of great attorneys. Just like some are passionate about sports and sports figures, I am passionate about the gamesmanship between both teams in a trial. Courtroom drama unfolding. Attorney’s sparring legalese and laws on the books excite me just as much as some are by the Super Bowl. Or the NASCAR CHASE, 10  final races to determine who the season’s champ is.

Trial watchers like me  had an incredible Super Bowl of trials in 2011.

The State of Florida vs Casey Anthony.

The case was about a missing little girl  who was almost 3 at the time. For months we as a nation watched in horror as one event after another unfolded as this baby’s mom Casey Anthony’s lies started falling apart one by one. And as someone on the outside watching you knew right away there was something very wrong with what this mom was saying. It made my skin crawl.

This perfect little angel is what this was all about. What happened to this beautiful little soul?

We will never know the truth, We will never know because it is hidden inside the mind of a person who should never have been gifted this beauty in the first place. I don’t mean that this baby’s grandparents did not deserve her, they most certainly did. If Casey could have just been the vessel to carry this angel to term, until she came in to this world, than handed over to George & Cindy Caylee would still be with her grand parents today. Casey should never give birth again. I pray that God knows now the evil she is capable of and not let one more angel be borne to this wicked person.

Jeff Ashton, assistant district attorney for the state of Florida, Pinnelas County, is my All Star pick for 2011. I enjoyed watching and learning from this man, This Smiling Man sitting over there. I actually enjoyed Mr Ashton’s smile and although maybe not appropriate at the time I could relate. I was sitting in front of my TV laughing at Jose Baez silly tirade as he tried to be convincing. Again But I learned more about the judicial process, and for that I am grateful. I would have found it fascinating to sit as a juror in one of Mr Ashton’s trials.

Linda Drane Burdick, state assistant district attorney.

In her opening argument showed two photos of Caylee. Two very different photos of Caylee, hoping to humanize this sweet and adorable baby. Taking her from a victim in this case to the actual pure and perfect little human that she was. By publishing to the jury a photo of Caylee alive, well, and happy. The last photo taken of Caylee taken by her grandmother, Cindy. The next photo is of Caylee’s remains.

I’m reacting writing it. I had to take a moment and quiet my heart down. This baby had become a  meaningful  person to me. She represents all the children that need a voice of their own in my mind. Caylee was just starting to really communicate long sentences, with her own thoughts. How much longer would it have been before Caylee either started telling  where she’s been, and who she has been in contact with her mom? And their activities? Or maybe she had begun.  No longer was she the cute baby with no voice. Caylee was also becoming more and more in Casey’s way.

In the opening argument by the state  two very different  photos of Caylee are published to the jury. One she is laughing and being a kid, the other she is unrecognizable. Thrown into a swamp in Florida.

The jury does not even react. I was not there, yet watching and listening to the media who were in the courtroom listening to opening arguments ALL said the same thing. Jury? No reaction, no response from any of them. They might as well have been listening to a recitation regarding the impact of Global Warming.

Was this a sign of things to come?. Was this a foreshadow into the results?

The trial became a game of antics by Baez. Having to send the jury out so often I’m certain that one could start and finish a novel during just the sidebars and the times the jury was sent out each week. It was frustrating as a spectator, not to be privy to the sidebars and in the Judges chambers. The jury must have become irritated over and over.

Finally the jury is read the Jury Instructions by Judge Perry. The jury was excused to deliberate and find their verdict.

There was never a request for any of the evidence, no testimony read back, no apparent need to evaluate any part of the trial themselves.  The jury was out in exactly 10 hours, .40 minutes, &.33 seconds. This was how long they needed to walk back out and look the Honorable Judge Perry in the face as the handed their verdict form over to the court. I’m certain the courtroom was filled with so much tension that it would have been hard to breathe. It was difficult for me as I sat unmoving, hardly breathing myself. The verdict, the outcome of this trial was impacting so many people. I could not even begin to imagine the strength and courage of George & Cindy Anthony as they sat literally supporting one another. They had lost their only grandchild, now they could lose their daughter for the heinous act of killing her own child.  If we’d not seen it before, too many times that it’s possible for some women to commit these acts we’d never believe it possible.

And yet there is a beautiful angle dead.

The word came down from the court clerk.  A verdict has been reached. I’m thinking to myself, “Wow, they really got it! They know that she killed Caylee and needed little time to deliberate. I know that a jury has some housekeeping chores when they first convene to deliberate. And one of the things is to choose their Fore Person. Then to go over the jury instructions amongst themselves. This is the first time in 6 weeks they have been allowed to discuss the case. The first time to share  what they believe happened. Not what they feel, but what the facts are. And only then can they apply their common sense from living as an adult in an adult world.

Then the clerk is reading the verdict.

Not Guilty on all charges! …………Seriously?

This is a dream, I must have fallen asleep and am now even dreaming about this trial. For over 3 years I was almost consumed with observing everything I could about the legalities concerning this child who first was thought to be missing. For 31 days this baby’s mother told on lie after another, all the while she knew her baby’s body was lying in a swamp. Amazing details that were not to come out until trial actually started in July 2011.

A full acquittal?

What?  Not even child abuse? Neglect?  Your child is missing, for 31 days,  you do not tell anyone, and especially you don’t call the police? This is not neglect? At the very least? This jury let down the judicial system. Even  far worse is this jury is solely responsible for the fact that no justice will ever be served on Caylee Marie Anthony’s behalf.  It’s an honor to sit on a jury. It’s a privilege. The state,  the defense, and the court put this major decision into the hands of this jury and it’s alternates.

Apparently this particular jury believed Jose Baez, the defense lead attorney. Incredibly they were somehow able to agree amongst themselves in less than eleven hours that the defense team gave them enough for reasonable doubt. I don’t know how, I watched the entire trial. Were they all really in the same courtroom? Were they asleep? Maybe so.

What a travesty of justice for Caylee Marie Anthony. A complete injustice.

I feel so sad when I think of this Angel of Delight no longer gracing our planet. No longer playing in the beautiful back yard gardens of her grand parent’s home.  No longer playing in her sweet little doll house made just for her size.

God Speed little angel Caylee, you are now with other angels in a park full of daisies. Play sweetie, just play.
